Built around one question: where should idle capital actually go?
Thornwick Kapsted exists to turn that question into a disciplined, logged process — not a one-off recommendation.
Why Thornwick Kapsted was started
Thornwick Kapsted was founded on a simple observation: most businesses hold cash reserves that sit idle for long stretches between operating cycles, while the tools available to evaluate what to do with that capital are either too generic or too opaque to act on with confidence.
We set out to build a more structured approach — one that treats capital allocation as an ongoing, measurable discipline rather than a single decision made once and left unreviewed. That approach is reflected in the performance log format you can review elsewhere on this site, and in how we describe our methodology.
We are a small, focused team, and we intend to stay that way. Our interest is in being precise and accountable about a narrow problem, not in being broad.
Make idle capital decisions as rigorous as operating decisions
Businesses apply far more scrutiny to a hiring decision or a supplier contract than they typically apply to the cash sitting in a reserve account. Our mission is to close that gap — giving businesses a consistent, documented way to evaluate where idle capital should sit, and to hold that evaluation to the same standard as any other operating decision.
The principles behind our process
Transparency over promises
We would rather show a logged, reviewable record of past recommendations than make a forward-looking claim we can't substantiate.
Risk stated plainly
Every allocation carries risk. We describe it in plain terms rather than burying it in disclaimers no one reads.
Process over prediction
We focus on a repeatable, documented methodology rather than one-off calls that can't be traced back to reasoning.
Narrow focus, done properly
We work on one problem — idle capital allocation — and try to do it with more care than a generalist advisory service would.
A small team, deliberately
Thornwick Kapsted is run by a compact group of people who work directly on methodology, review, and client communication, rather than a large layered organisation. We think this keeps the work accountable: the people who build the process are the same people who stand behind it.
We don't publish individual staff profiles on this page, but you're welcome to ask us directly about our team and how recommendations are reviewed — see the Contact page for details.
